Meat balls
Meatballs are small, round balls made from ground meat, for example beef, pork or chicken.
The meatball has a long history and originated during periods of poverty. The greater the poverty in a period, the more the meatball consisted of bread. Nowadays, this is no longer the case.
Nowadays, a meatball is made by adding herbs and spices to the minced meat and then turning it into a ball and frying it.
Adding flavours such as Italian or Asian spices is possible.
The meatball is delicious with a traditional Dutch stew, such as endive, kale or hutspot, but is also regularly consumed on a ‘sandwich ball’. Outside Dutch cuisine, the meatball is also a great addition to meals, such as spaghetti bolognese and Asian noodle dishes.
