A hotdog is a sausage that resembles a small smoked sausage with a diameter of 20 millimetres and is often associated with a bun, sauce and onions.
It is a product useful for lunch and people often eat it on the go after buying it on the street.

The origin of the hotdog most probably lies in Germany.
The hotdog is derived from the German ‘Frankfurter’. The hotdog is particularly popular in the United States, capitalising on the street food trend.

At Compaxo, we make hotdogs on our coextrusion line.
Coextrusion is a process used to combine different raw materials, to make a final product. The process starts by mixing two or more different raw materials in a mixer, which are then fed into an extruder. The extruder kneads and heats the ingredients into dough, then melts and mixes them. The mixture is then deformed into a hot dog using a collagen layer. During the coextrusion process, the product is pasteurised and vacuum-packed, giving it a shelf life outside refrigeration for a longer period of time.

The hotdog is vacuum-packed and different variants in grammages and on mats are possible.
An item that has gained a lot of growth in popularity in recent years is our own brand hotdog/smoked sausage sandwich kit, complete with bun, sauce and sausage. In no time, you have a delicious sandwich on the table!

In the eighteenth century, German migrants left for the United States to sell the sausages in New York. This became a great success and not long after, hotdogs were sold nationwide as snacks on the streets or during sports games.
